An external hard drive is a type of hard disk drive that is connected to a computer by means of a USB cable or via a network. These devices come in a range of shapes, sizes and designs. The limitation with this type of drive is that all you data is typically held on one drive and any issue with that drive would render it ineffective. We work with Vendors such as Iomega, Western Digital and Seagate.
NAS devices are well within the reach of the consumer and business users alike, offering an excellent way to both protect data using multiple drives and effectively balancing the data across a number of drives mitigates some risk of a single hard drive failure, dependant on configuration. THis doesn't negate the need for an alternative backup solution but will add to a cohesive back-up and disaster recovery solution. Some NAS devices can also operate as media servers for the output of video, pictures and images over the network. We work with vendors such as HP, NetGear, Iomega, Buffalo and Dell.
Velocis offer both home user NAS solutions and entry level and more sophisticated storage solutions aimed at the small to medium sized enterprise.
NAS vs SAN
In simplistic terms A NAS is a single storage device that operate on data files, while a SAN is a local network of multiple devices.
SAN's are aimed and deployed by business's with huge storage needs and a large scale of users it is a very specilised area and should a SAN be require then Velocis would partner with a SAN Supplier.
